Got a days fishing on Lough Sheelin on Tuesday last. Arrived at about 11am, got the boat sorted and had a chat with the local boatman, to get the latest info.
Set up two rods. The first with a 7# floater and a team of three wets, and just in case a second rod with and intermediate with two wets and a weighted ptn on the point.
Was on the lake for 1130 and took the advice of Noel, the local boatman and headed for the far side of Church Island.
The weather was great, overcast with light winds and a nice ripple on the lough. Decided on the way over to Church to stop at Derrysheridan shore, as the wind was blowing nicely for a drift along here, and in the past has produced some nice fish.
I had just wetted my line when I saw a fish move within casting distance. On my third cast over the said fish, or where I thought it was, there was a swirl at my flies and bang, fish on, not one fish, but a double hook up. I couldn't believe it. The last time I fished this place for four days without any fish, and now two at once.
After I calmed down, two fish came to the net, not big, but very welcome and I thought this was going to be the start of things to come for the rest of the day, but it wasn't to be. Fished hard all day and only turned one more fish. So it was off to Wattys Rock for a quick shandy and then home.

Yes mate I did. If your thinking of going from there give him a ring first and he'll have the boat ready for you, saves you waiting on him. |

No SB didn't try the minkies. Saw plenty of fish move in the Derrysheridan shore area and fished around Church and Rusheen and saw a few there as well. Didn't really venture anywhere else. |
