me my dad and stuart arrived at the fishery at quarter to ten and the compo started at 10 when we arrived fred (the fishery manager) went through the rules we had to kill are first fish and then fish catch and release and if it was a tie the biggest fish would win then in no time we were off everyone there all had there rods set up an when we were allowed to fish they all ran for the pegs leaving me my dad an stuart to fish in between pegs when i was setting up my rod a few people had already caught there first fish an we were feeling the pressure when i was settin up my leader my dad hooked his first fish a rainbow of 2lb 1/4.
when i got my rod set up on went a diawl bach on the dropper and a blob under the indicator the lake is about 11 foot and drops to 20 foot in places so i put on a 15 foot leader hoping my blob would lie on the bottom with the diawl bach above it i got one on the blob on the first cast an my dad had hooked his second fish a lovely fish of about 4lb then about five mins later i was retrieving my flie and i seen a fish cruising the margins and covered it and it took the blob an put up a good fight.
my dad went ahead with another two fish on a green and white lure and i soon got another fish on the diawl bach the weather had got worse and nothing seemed interested in my flies so i swaped my diawl bach for a buzzer and missed a fish. i cast out again an got another fish on my orange blob.
A few other people had caught after a while but me and my dad were joint first things went quiet for the next hour or so and i had changed my flies several times without anymore takes when i looked round me all the people seemed to be pulling lures. the weather got even worse with a strong wind blowing and it was bucketing down and lucky me who never brough any waterproofs was soaked right through
About half an hour or so later from my last fish i changed to an intermediate line with a humungus on and i started hammering the fish i went ahead of my dad and caught another 4 and my dad got another fish which brough him to five and me on 8 things slowed down again so i changed my lure a few times with nothing happening so on went the humungus again and i got another fish. i hooked another fish which broke me and i had no more humungus's left so on went a minkie and i thought the fish would stop biting but i continued to fish with the minkie i hooked another 3 fish and the third one took me into the backing then my braided loop broke and off the line went into the depts so i set up my floating and fished for a while and fished with no takes
by this stage i was gettin stick from other anglers and i kept checking with fred to see if anyone was near me but my dad remained in second place with 5 an the closest to him was 2 other anglers who had 3 one of them being stuart. i was pretty confident by this stage as there was an hour left so i went in the hut for a cup of tea and biscuits and dried of a bit. when i came out two other people were on five aswell as my dad so i went out and and gave my dad the minkie i was catching on and took his flie a white lure and i caught number 11 on my dads fly and there was 15 mins left so fished to the end and won my dad lost out as his fish was the smallest out of the other 2 and he finished 4th but he was glad that i won and so was i

Harry,
That was a breath taking account. Sounds like you had a great day and you fished very well.
That humungus sounds like a useful pattern to have.
