Headed down to Ballybofey today chasing the silver tourist. Left home here at 8am and arrived at Cloghan Lodge around 10.30am. We got our tickets and made our way to Magintys Pool.
The sun was spliiting the trees and there was a fair breeze blowing over the mountains. I set up my Greys GRXI 13ft with a Wf9 sink tip line. Around 6ft of a leader was finished off with a Conehead Black and Silver tubefly.
Magintys is a fair run of water with deep holes and some lovely running water all in all real Salmony water. Mark decided he would spin today while I fly fished. After 10 mins Mark landed a nice wee brownie which gobbled his flying 'c'. I fished to the end of the pool but nothing my end.
We walked down a few fields to Keys Pool. Now my god this is some bit of water and anyone who has fished the Finn knows what I am talking about here. The water was perfect height but amazingly for a spate river it was crystal clear. I was standing in around4 ft of water and I could easily see my feet and the stones and boulders. I fished all of keys right down to where the Grilse Pool starts and all I caught was 2 small browns. The water was freezing and you couldnt really stand in the water for any lenght of time. We decided to call it a day cause I like a little tint of colour on the water.
Another month or so will make a good difference to the fishing here and a good run of Grilse is expected in May/June.
All in all a really nice days fishing in beautiful scenery albeit no fish for our troubles.

Fished the finn today, water level was at 2ft at the glenmore road bridge and as close to perfect as it gets, plenty of anglers out but shame there wasnt as many fish as anglers, i saw 1 fish landed around the grilse pool, fresh run but no size, dont no where the grilse are this year, I managed to hook a grilse up river on a size 10 orange and gold shrimp, A bit of excitment landing the fish with no net and nowhere to beach the fish i had to attempt tailing it (not as easy as it sounds) would have been so much easier if wee colin had dragged his arse out of bed like he was supposed to, but i managed to get it banked ad i had myself a nice wee fish of about 5lb but i wont be forgetting my net the next day, and maybe colin wont forget to set his alarm,
