Fished the mourne SUN 13TH JULY. It was really combat fishing there was that many anglers on it. I managed to find a spot to fish in the woodhole. The grilse ran pretty steady all day. I conected with 4 fish & landing 2 of them 6lbs / 4lbs they all took a gold cascade size 10. Seen loads of fish caught & lost & heard of one angler hooking 10 & just landing 1. The upper rivers in the foyle system should start to fish well now  Wink

Just back from the Mourne there now, seen plenty of fish moving(mainly around the woodhole area), but very few were getting caught compared to the amount of anglers fishing it. One lucky angler included Bill Graham from Larne, who landed two fresh sea liced grilse weighing around 4lb each, on the fly and lost another. He had borrowed his mates new 14ft vision gt4 catapult and hardy angel reel, and up until today had never used a double handed rod before!!!!

Fished the mourne today again 15th it was like a different river altogether. Seen about 2 grilse all day never heard of any caught. We fished the mill pool, woodhole, blackstone, higgins streams & up around victoria bridge. Many anglers went home early unlike  die hards like me & my two friends. Thinking a run of fish might come in or is that hoping  Rolling Eyes .While  we where talking to the ghillie / bailiff of the duke of abercorn estate he got a call saying one of the nets on the foyle had 50 salmon in one of the nets. The sooner they all take the pay out the better. Firey as for the bush according to the salmon forum theres nothing comeing in & thats from anglers fishing the sea pool. Carnroe is the same but saying that the clady in portglenone got a wee run of fish & there,s supposed to be a few fish caught in the park at shanes castle & what i hear there,s a right few dollaghan in the river maine  Wink  I might do an all nighter soon to seen if its true. I,ll keep you,s updated. Im going to have a few whiskeys now cause today scundered me  Razz  Razz  Razz

Fished mourne again sunday. Still combat fishing out there  Shocked  I caught another grilse 4lbs, lost one & had a few takes. There was a strong upstream wind for most of the day making flyfishing difficult at times. Didnt see many fish show all day & the local guys say there,s talk of closing the river because there,s only 800 through the counter. I dont know if this is true. I,ll have to see if i can find out by emailing LOUGHS ANGENCY The river was in perfect order for the fly.
