Report
Finally a day off work , our usually stomping grounds on the Down coast were unfisihable due to the water clarity being a cross between seaweed soup and chocolate milk, not so good for swff'ing
So off to the Straid it was,
Arriving shortly before 11 we were greated by Davy and after a relativley painless cash transaction , two c&r tickets and a boat were ours for the day ..
Feeling slightly under the weather, I elected that John should row (I'm decent that way ) and row he did , round in circles for a few minutes but he soon got the hang of it , as we dog legged our way up the lake I noticed quite a few fish rising around us , always a good sign .
We decided to anchor 60 yds or so from the overflow, John had a few bites on an olive wooly bugger but no takes , I tied on a weighted pheasent tail nymph and got the first fish of the day
the fishing was slow , not that there weren't any fish, there was loads of them rising all around the bloody boat , catching them was the problem
The conversation went from what fly to use to where the feck can we gat a bag of lime on a Sunday ?
After a few hours we returned to the office to get a cuppa, had a natter with Harry and Davy . 10 minutes later refreshed and envigoured we resumed the fishing , dry flies were tied on and prayers were offered to the fishing gods .. ( if more fish weren't boated ,next on the list would've been a human sacrifice ! )
I missed two on the surface, then John struck into a lively fish which was boated and returned . I was having no luck at all I chucked the contents of my fly box at the rising fish, but to no avail . Meanwhile Jiohn was performing surgery on a black gnat and mumbling incoherently .
whatever he did semed to work and this happened
closely followed by this
( sorry about the photo the fish asked thats its face wasn't to be shown on any websites)
and that was that ... we fished on for an hour or so, but the fish refused to co-operate
It was a good day out tho, better than sitting in the house cursing the weather, the Bass can wait until another day
Andy

Excellent report bOogaloo
same kinda result here with 11 fish to the boat and bank,,as you rightly said there was plenty of fish on the move but coaxing them was another matter altogether,,i stuck with a 3 fly set up of nymphs today and had a few in the main lake on the good old reliable PTN and 1 on a Flashback Hares Ear Nymph,,then when things went quiet it was on with the lures which brought quite a few to the bank.....
Ohhh before i forget i better mention WATERBOY or he`ll never stop goin on about it ,,,,he out fished me with 12 to the bank or was it 13 ...............

That was an excellent report, really enjoyed reading it. Straid is a brilliant place that I just do not fish enough. Will definitely have to get back to it.
Thanks for your time and effort.

Cracking report and pictures b0ogaloo
Can I give you a wee tip, try and keep the fish in the net when fishing catch and release, it is less stressful on the fish, especially at this time of year when the water temperature is quite high and the oxygen levels are low.
