HI All

i would like to ask about night time photography,,, i`ve seen quite a few beautiful photos of anglers fishing on lakes at night and especially Sunset where the silhouette of the anglers is set against a great back round,,how would i achieve something like this ? whats the secret in taking night time photos ? should i pay particular attention to Aperture modes and mess around with that function or just use features like night portrait on my camera,,,i`ve tried some night scenery shots but they always turn out very blurred and seem out of focus especially if there are lights far away in the distance and there`s no point in using the Flash,,,,

eagerly awaits response

Regards

night scenes require ome thought

flash can help for a quick snap of a fish  etc but wont do any good to a sunset/ sillhouete shot

the falsh will cause only exposed part of image tio have any detail and background will be quite dark

to plan a shot it is best to use TRIPOD and poss self timer or a cable release to eliminate camera shake

appeture ie f value  will still determine depth of field desired this will then alter shutter speed

any hand held shot below 1/30 sec will often start to show blurring and unles this is desired find a stable base ie TRIPOD
which will then allow you to utelise slower shutter speeds

moving vehicles can be a good subject at nights when the head lamps and  tail lights can give long streaks of red and white/ yellow accross an image
i have used shutter speeds as long as 8 seconds on some of those type of shots

hope this helps
fire away with any q's m8

Hellllllllllllllllllllp

not sure i get that tack,,,,,,what i mean is how do i get slower shutter speeds for night time photos ?

ohhhhhhhhhh i think i`ve just worked it out lol,,, do you mean the EXPOSURE ?? if i have the exposure
at F2.8 that means the shutter is open for 2.8 sec  and if i want the exposure to be longer the i have to increase
it to F 8 which means the shutter will stay open for 8 sec ??

Regards

no

f 2.8 means the appeture ie how much light gets in

and the speed determines how long the light gets in

ie f2.8  at 2 1/2 secs

night scenery mode on your cam page 60 on your manual

This mode allows you to take a picture of a
nightscape. The landscape can be
recorded vividly by using the slow shutter
speed.

∫ Technique for Night scenery mode
• Since the shutter speed becomes slow
(max. about 8 sec.), use a tripod.
• The focus range is 16.4 feet (5 m) – Ά.
• The shutter may be kept closed
(max. about 8 seconds) after taking a
picture with slow shutter speed, but it is
not a malfunction.
•When you take pictures in dark places,
noise may become visible.
• The ISO sensitivity is fixed to [ISO100].
• The Flash setting is fixed to Forced OFF
[ ].
• The settings on the AF assist lamp and
the continuous AF are disabled.

also refer to page 52 of your manual
shutte priority (SHUTTER SPEED)
