hook size 20 drenan carbon specimen(size wise as a short shank will match a dry 22)
thread 8/0 black
butt orange SLF
body hares ear slf
head CDC feather (natural x2)

1. find hook they are tiny and mount in vice and run onthread

2. secure two CDC and run thread down to bend before cutting off waste

3 run thread part way up hook again and apply wax for dubbing

4 apply thin dubbing rope of orange and natural hares ear slf

wind thread back towards bend

aiming to arrive at butt with orange slf ready to be tied in

5 complete winding on dubbing to cover base of cdc

6 whip finish apply some varnish and after a minute or so bring out a velcro scrubber (lolipop or coffee stirer aith velcro attached)
and go from this

i freely admit this is not the best head of a fly but was tied for demo. Confused
to this

compare to a size 14

This type of little pattern has caught me a lot of fish at Woodford over the summer, even during the evening caenis hatch. Have had succes with natural hare's fur, green or fluoro green, or as you have tied it but the other way round, natural hare with a touch of fire orange SLF at the thorax.

Great SBS by the way.
Very Happy

Beatnik,

I bought the first packet from the Village Tackle Shop in Newtownbreda after I could not find a small fly tying hook that I was happy with. That, at the time was all they had so ordered more from here http://www.tackleuk.co.uk/drennan-carbon-specimen-p-1300.html

There are other similar hooks made for specialist coarse anglers, but the carbon specimens are slightly finer and more suited to this in my opinion.
