There was a northeasterly at Woodford yesterday. The flat bank in front of the lodge was quite calm the wind coming off your back over your right shoulder. Casting was easy and fish were rising in the calm water. I saw some vey small green buzzers and larger black buzzers hatching. What fish were caught were taken on buzzers or small black lures.

Might just be looking for the best of a bad job, it will not be nice anywhere.

The Northerleys that were forecast turned out to be north easterleys , so Ifished woodburn middle dam until lunchtime , blanked . Decided to go to Woodford but couldnt find the place so ended up at the Straid , blanked there too, never saw a bloody fish all day

I brought a black bin bag and a litter picker with me to woodburn, filled it with empty tins, worm tubs , chocolate wrappers etc  its now in my bin,

I was told  by an angler that the baliffs had caught 14 people fishing illegally at the dams, two motorcyclists and a woman who swam her horse in the dam,

unfortunatley this doesnt seem to have detered either the motorcyclists or the horse riders,,, 3 motorbikes  racing around the place today and two horses in the middle dam

ho hum

DCAL

Thats an absolute disgrace,,is it any wonder i never bothered with a DCAL permit this year... now that the Bailiffs have caught a few people you`ll probably not see them again for another couple of years,,the system that is in place for controling the Woodburn dams must be the worst in the UK if these were English waters i doubt wether they would have this kind of problem,,DCAL need to get up of their backsides and take this as a serious matter until then it will constantly be abused by people destroying the Dams willy nilly with litter, dog mees, poaching, vandalism and god knows what else,,,BUT hey you`ve got to pay for the privilage,,what a joke....

DCAL have no Baliff's ... its all done by the FCB , however  the FCB are merging with DCAL at the end of the year , which may improve the situation

We need a system in place here like  the souths " waterkeepers"

The whole system of public fisheries in Northern Ireland is nothing more than a very sad and awful joke. Starting with the nonsense that is the game/coarse licence, the fact that the people who run a fishery have no control over the water or access to it, to the lack of baliffs and the utter useless manner in which public fishing is administered. If you and I were as incompatent at our jobs, we would be on the dole.

One problem is that to the people who are paid good civil service wages to administer our waters, nothing really matters. If the system is good or absolute sh!t* like it is now, we continue to have to pay and they continue to get paid. First thing that needs to change is a new body capable of doing what we as licence payers, and tax payers, require, and a slightly longer dole queue of ex DCAL empolees.

Second thing is down to anglers. We contribute far to liitle to our public fishing. We pay peanuts and get monkies. The level of pricing for what should be well run trout fishing is simply not realistic, or sustainable. I sometimes wonder if the public angling estate should not really be about naturalised good quality coarse fishing, and leave trout to private individuals and those prepared to pay the premium for quality trout fishing.

I keep a DCAL local permit for various reasons, the dams are very close to me and I occasionally fish them with my father. Once bought they also cover my coarse fishing ( although this one coarse rod on a game licence the same price as a two rod coarse licence is another bl@@dy joke). However every year I go through the same dilema about buying them. I do really resent giving the b**gers any of my hard worked for cash.
