Black CDC FlyBlack CDC Fly
a simple little pattern using only 3 materials ie silver flat tinsel, black dubbing, and CDC (natural)
this will represent any small black fly on the water,it accounted for more fish than i care to remember its a pattern i would never be without,,
in this step by step i used a size 16# but tie it in smaller sizes,,as small as you can manage
Hook: kamasan 16# dry fly
Thread: Black Uni 8.0
Butt/Tag: Flat silver tinsel or Red
Body: Black Dubbing
Wing: CDC (natural)
Step 1
run the thread right down past the bend off the
hook and tie in the flat silver tinsel or Red tinsel
you will notice there`s no bobbin holder that's because the
thread snapped (try not to do this lol) and i had to re-tie
Step 2
make a few turns of silver tinsel to form the Butt/Tag
tie off and run the thread forward stopping a few millimeteres
before the eye
Step 3
take 3 plumes of natural CDC as shown
(for smaller sizes ie 18,20 it may only take 2 plumes)
Step 4
place each plume one on top of the other as shown
Step 5
lay the plumes (concave side up) on top of the hook with
the butts point to the rear and make a few loose turns to secure
working towards the back of the hook,as you get further back put
more tension on the thread to hold firmly in place
Step 6
trim the ends of the feathers and bind down (dont worry about loose
fibers as these will not be seen once the dubbing is in place) you should
now have something like this
Step 7
make a little rope of black dubbing and wind on to form the body
stopping at the point where you first tied in the CDC
Step 8
take the CDC between your finger and thumb of your left hand
and pull back, try to grip all the fibers,if any come loose simply
re-adjust,,,once you have all the fibers pulled back make a few turns
of thread directly in front of the CDC to form a small lump and whip finish
Step 9
this is the effect you are trying to achieve with the CDC now pointing
upwards in this fashion,,the fly is almost finished
Final step
trim the CDC and Varnish the thread
you dont want all that good work to fall apart
The final product ENJOY
when fish are taking small black flies on or in the surface this is
my first choice of fly Everytime ! ! tie a few with a RED butt/tag
that was the original shown to me by Adrian Young its deadly,,
All comments/questions welcome
