Hi Guys
This year I have been concentrating a lot on buzzers on the wild lakes with surprising sucess, and as well as fishing them I have also been tying a few, but the thing I dont understand is when to use buzzers with breathers. Is it a personal preferance thing? or is there some thought behind it? Would a buzzer with breathers be placed any where spefic on a cast of 4 buzzers? I know they are a closer representation but I have had sucess on both.

I think it's pretty much a matter of personal preference. I usually but not always tie them without breathers.

I catch on both, certainly seems to be no great disadvantage in leaving them out. However they are a recognisable feature of the real thing and can certainly only add to the realism. White baby wool makes a good representation of the breathers at the head end.

Hi Troutsbane

i fish buzzers both with and without breathers and have not noticed any difference in catch rate between the two so i suppose its all down to personal preference,,i met a friend of mine a while back and i noticed he didnt have any of the epoxy type of Buzzers in his box and when i asked why he simply said he prefered to use the dubbed body type also with and without breathers and to be honest he catches his fare share of fish on them,,they are all tied very slim and in all sorts of shades so again thats just a personal preference of his..

about 3 weeks ago i spooned a wild brown trout that was stuffed full of buzzers so i brought the contents home and put them in a glass jar to have a closer look,, Two things struck me,,Firstly there was a RED buzzer among the contents (and before you say it,,NO it wasn`t a Bloodworm) it was Definately a red buzzer,,first time i`ve ever noticed one...Secondly one of the buzzers was swimming around and i could quite clearly see the Orange cheeks and hemoglobin at the base of the buzzer it too had the familiar breathers at the head and base,,the strange thing was when i took the buzzer out of the water as the breathers seemed to disappear as if they were invisible but once back in the water the breathers were noticable again... i took a few photos and here are the results.....

here is the buzzer in question,,it was Olive in colour although it doesn`t
look that colour in the photo but i assure you it was Olive

the same buzzer again and yet there are no signs of the breathers in
the photo

yet again the same buzzer,,the photo is a bit blurred because the buzzer
was swimming about and therefore making it difficult to take a good shot
dont confuse this with the RED buzzer i was talking about earlier but notice the
breathers at the head and base...

lastly the same buzzer with the breathers more apparent and also the
Orange cheeks,,slightly below you will notice an empty shuck..

hope this helps mate

Regards

Superb pics there Harry, you can pick out every detail Cool  Cool

Troutsbane, I was once told by an angler when I asked him why he tied his buzzers with breathers, "You can always cut them off if the fish don't want them, but you can't put them on if they do" Wink

So I just didn't bother tying them in, just seemed like a waste of time Very Happy
