Connemara BlackConnemara Black as shown to me by Firey Brown
hook 8- 14 wet
tail golden pheasant crest
rib siver oval/wire
body balck dubbing
beard bluejay/ blue guinea fowl
wing bronze mallard
put hook into vice run black thread up and catch in
golden pheasant topping
tie in silver rib (oval silver/silver wire)
make a body of black dubbing and wind on rib
turn hook upside down in vice and catch in bluejay (sorry not very clear pic) this is called beard style,a bit tricky to get right but with practise it will come
put hook into vice the right way up,,it should look like this
prepare wing (brown paper for demo only)
step one fold outer edges to middle of bronze mallard
next fold in half along length
this is what you should end up with,,but not brown paper it will only fall to bits when wet use Mallard
tie in some bronze mallard, prepared as above, i like the mallard to be nice and dark it makes the fly so much better looking
trim off the waste,,whip finish and varnish....your fly should look something like this

Connemarra Blacka good all year round fly and deadly for the wild browns,,it can also be tied with a little Tag/butt of orange floss just before the tail,,,
i read today that it is a good sea trout pattern and one angler stated that it would also be his first choice of fly for salmon on the west coast of ireland (i never knew that)
so there you go it seems this is a more versatile fly than i fisrt thought, i will certainly have a few of them in box form now on
