DOUBLE HANDER

Hi All

for all the Salmon fishermen who use Double handed Fly rods rods what in your honest opinion would be a suitable size to use for the Average river that we fish here in Ireland ? and what are the added advantages of using these rods instead of single handed rods

im expecting differences of opinion here

I have 2 double handed rods for the silver tourist. The first one as you know F.B is the diawa 15ft that I have let you try up at the lake. I use this for most fishing to be honest and I know that most of our local rivers are smallish but I use the 15ft to simply hold my flies in the runs longer.

My other rod is a smaller 12ft doublle hander ands i rarely use this rod except maybe if the water conditions are at summer levels and a floating line are employed.

I have tried fishing with a single hander for salmon and plain and simple mate its bloody hard work casting and mending all day with the smaller rods.

Cheers for that Adrian

yes i had a little cast with your rod but didnt know it was a 15 foot rod,,i borrowed one when i fished the Mourne,,took me an hour or two just getting used to it and it was a pleasure to use i Think it was a 14 feet rod not to sure on that,,but as you quite rightly say its more to keep the flies in the water and line control as i wrongly thought that BIG rods mean POWER etc etc,,i found out its trying to get the technic right when casting a double hander but once you get the hang of it they can be a pleasure to use (not that im any expert lol)...if you`d have seen me trying to cast the first time i used it LMAO line everywhere, hooking trees, cost me a small fortune in flies too OH and still no fish i wonder why lol,,,

gotta get a trip out with you this season mate maybe you can help me break my Duck,,,,which brings me to this question,,, why aren`t there any Photos of last seasons Salmon in the Photo Gallery ??

anyone with photos of fish,,Salmon or whatever you know where to post them guys so lets see last seasons catches
