Andy (just realised, is there anyone on this site apart from me not called Andy).
Have to qualify my answer by admitting that I have just completed my first full year fly fishing. But, I did have a rather successful ( at least I was happy with my results) autumn last year. For September and October My most successful pattern at both Woodford and Lough Mourne was a black fritz tadpole/IPN. Size 10 b175 hook, black micro fritz body and marabou tail, a gold or siver bead with a collar of fluorescent green thread between fritz and bead.

Sedge patterns and daddys work well for me this time of year as well boogaloo.

Autumn FliesAndy
this time of year can be difficult as we approach Autumn and the fish can switch on and off very quickly due to the breeding season closing in,, you could try the usual sedge patterns some of which are,Invicta,Silver Invicta,Green Peter, sedge pupae etc etc and of course Daddies.. but yet again the fly life this year has been badly affected by the weather (global warming LOL we blame it for everything) with very sparse hatches...
you could also try a selection of Lures as Fossil has suggested,,especially as the weather gets much colder and the fish tend to lie that little bit deeper... Cats Whisker,Black Fritz Tadpoles, and any other lure patters you can get your hands on are worth a try...
its no surprise that the best time of the day to catch is Early Morning and Late Evening,,so here are a few patterns that i`ve been trying out at the moment throughout the Day when the fish dont seem to be "playing ball" the most effective tends to be the one on the left
the best methods so far for me have been a Floating line with one of these on the point and skated across the surface when the fish are more active in the surface water,,,watch the bow wave as the fish turn and give chase.....GREAT CRAIC
intermediate line or slow sinker with Figure of Eight and long slow retrieve,,TWO on the cast 4 or 5 feet apart
i haven`t got round to trying them on a sinking line,,YET
AS REQUESTED the tyings for these are as follows,,from the left
LEFT FLY
hook: kamazan B175 size 10

Firey,
Those lures are amazing. Not only first class tying but brilliant design and conception.
