fly tyingHi all hope someone can help me i have been fishing for 15 years and just reaiised hw much im actually spending on flies every year so i want to start tieing my own can anyone put me in the right direction i.e where to buy the kit to start tieing does anyone have it second hand etc etc etc ?

If you are going to start tying your own flies it would be better to decide which flies you are going to start off tying and buy the materials for those flies instead of buying a fly tying kit,,,,,the reason i say that is many of the kits have lots of materials that you wont actully use and you`d be better of spending your money on things that will be of more benefit to you and build it up from there,,
make out a list of the flies you are going to tie and you`ll find it cheaper to purchase the materials for each fly,,
here are the tools that you will need to start off
Vice
bobbin holder
scissors
dubbing needle
whip finish tool
hackle pliers
you could contact Stevie Munn he`s on here and sells all this stuff and im sure he`ll do you a good deal seeing as you`re a forum member,,, if you need any help give me a shout

Hi David
The best advise I can think of is buy to one of them cheapo sets that have all the tools in them, then practise tying the black pennall all flies are have nearly the same amount of ingrediants you know tail, rib, body and head hackle and when you think you have perfected that then move to a silver invicta which has the same amount of ingrediants but with a hen pheasant secondary once you can perfect the hen pheasant wing you can tie anything.
Dont be sucked into buying a load of materials and watch out for the magazines! alot of the time the magical fly they advertise is just a way of selling new materials YOU DON'T NEED

thanks very much guys i will way my options up and come up with something !!! i have a caravan in kesh troutsbane maybee meet up for a days fishing on the erne over the next couple of months

Davy i have seen you try to tie a dropper on and you want to start tying flies? are you feeling ok? 
only joking mate but at least you have an excuse for not buying any drink as it all goes on flys!
