KILGAD FISHERY

Over the last week, despite of weather conditions, kilgad has been fishing quite well, enjoying good rises of fish throughout the day and especially into the evening. Recent catches include William Campbell from Belfast who landed 21 on monday on lures, C Harper from Antrim also enjoyed catching 11, on dries. G Mc Fadden from Dromore used cdc dries yesterday to tempt 13 to the bank, also using the dries this week included Peter Marshall ,Ahoghil who landed 21 and Michael Millar from kells who landed 29. The best fish of the week was caught by local angler, Michael Currie on a cdc hares ear, tipping to scales to just below 9lb.

yeh, you're right. He is a carp angler, but now does a lot of fly fishing on the lakes and rivers.

KILGAD FISHERY

Over the last week, both lakes have been fishing particularly well with a few of the bigger fish showing their faces. Great evening rises have been occuring, and people are reminded of the evening ticket, that we offer, which includes an evenings catch and release fishing from 6pm to dark, for only £7.
Wiliam Cooley, from Belfast visited the lake, and managed to land 11 fish to a selection of lures. Ballymena angler, Rodney McWilliamson landed 16 on sunday to size 14 cdc hares ears. Other succesful anglers include regular Ian Fleming, from Burnside who landed 30 fish on buzzers and cats whiskers, Brian Busby from Ballyclare landed 21 using lures on Saturday. Paul Tonar, also from Ballyclare landed 19, and took 4 fish home for the pan for just over 13lb. Bill Graham, from Larne visited the lake on sunday evening, and landed a dozen fish on a size 18 cdc hares ear shuttlecock, one of which was the biggest fish to be caught during the week, tipping the scales to an impressive 14lb 3oz, Bill commented on the quality of this fish which was fully finned and put up a superb battle before bringing it to the net.

Kilgad Fishery

The last week continued to prove succesful for visiting anglers, with many of the larger fish still showing their faces. C Harper from Antrim caught band released 10 on dries, brothers Ken and Roy McCabe from Glengormley also fished well with dries releasing over 20 between them on sunday on 4hr catch and release tickets. Keith and Ken Thursby releasing 11 and 6 respectively on blobs. Between two visits local angler Cecil McMaster managed to land 30 fish on zonkers. On Sunday ,father and son, Sam and Gary Connaughty from  Kells landed 15 on a selection of buzzers. Customers are reminded that day tickets are available for the kells river from the lake shop, now that good runs of dollaghan have now made their way up the river. On Saturday, club member Bill Graham landed a beautiful fish of just under 5lb, and also caught another 4 up to 2lb. Yesterday Gareth Cooper fished the river directly behind the lake and managed to land 5 dollaghan up to 2 lb. Michael Currie has also been enjoying good catches with over a dozen for a couple of visits on wet flies.

Over the last week, anglers brave enough to face horrific weather conditions where well rewarded with good catches.Among these, was Rodney McWilliamson from Ballymena, who over the weekend landed 20 on small black dry flies. He was also lucky enough to land the biggest fish of the week, which weighed in at 12lb 6oz. Cecil Mc Master fished zonkers to land 15 fish with at least 6 of these being over 4lb.Trvour Parker, Ballyclare caught 9 on a selection of nymphs, and Victor and William Stirrup landed 10 on buzzers.
The kells river although it has been high nearly all week has been putting up some decent catches with local members Michael Currie, Gareth Cooper and Peter Marshall all getting plenty of dollaghan. Senior member, Billy Cathcart, enjoed high water conditions fishing salmon flies, to land 2 beautiful dollaghan both around the 4lb mark, at the Ross bridge. Father and son, Stephen and Colin Halliday fished Moorfields on Thursday night and landed a total of 10 dollaghan from 1lb 8oz to 2lb, all on wet flies. Salmon have been spotted moving throughout the river however few have been recorded. One lucky angler included Ian Wilson from Kells who landed a fish of 4lb 3oz on a size 2 mepps from the Wiggleton carry in Kells.Visiting anglers can be reminded that day tickets can be purchased from Kilgad Fishery, Mid Antrim Angling centre in Ballymena, Flecks shop in Moorfields, Supervalu in Kells, at the fee of £12 which rises to £15 after 1rst September. Some may find it more economical to but a season permit from Kilgad fishery at £75, which allows unlimited fishing throughout then entire season.

On thursday 21st August, Cullybackey man, Cecil McMaster caught 15 fish on zonkers, meanwhile Billy Woods using dries landed 6. Rea Rea, Crumlin,using damsel nymphs caught 10 and took home 2 fish for 6lb 4oz. Eric Magil and Colin Martin both landed 9 on Friday on a mixture of lures. Rodney Williamson, from Ballymena, on a 4hr c/r ticket on Saturday morning, landed 12 on small black dry flies. The river, which has now settled down into low water conditions is continuing to fish well with a few grilse being recorded. Alan Mc Dowell and Colin Halliday landed 2 and 3 dollaghan respectivly on thursday evening at the mill carry. Belfast angler Rab Mahood landed 2 at Moorfields.
