Killylane ResKillylane Reservoir
I and Watty’s Rock decided to go and have a throw at this ministry run water. When we got there I set up my Greenheart 9’6 with a WF 7 Greenheart floater line. To this I attached around 12ft of Maxima mono and tied on my trusty old Kate McClaren Lure. Watty set up his 10ft Greenheart with a very slow sink line and attached 2 lures to his mono. We walked the short distance from the car park to the waters edge and our adventure began.
After about 20 mins I turned a fish to the lure but missed it. I changed to a fozzy dog and again turned another fish but again no hook up. I walked the bank for about 100 yards and changed back to the Kate McClaren and 3 casts later I had my first fish. After a short struggle a lovely wild brown was realised and estimated about 8oz. I fished this bank for about another 20 mins but to no avail.
I made another wee trip down the bank to where the dam runs out. Watty followed close behind me. I waded in about 10 yards and had a few chucks. Watty shouted “I got a wee touch there “next cast he had a lovely fish on a Black PTN. I quickly changed my fly to a Black Pennel and 2 casts later I nailed a lovely fish fish of around 1lb 8oz. We fished for another 20 mins but old age set in and we got cold.
Below are just a few of today’s pics.

Mate get your ministry permit and we'l head up a day. Id say Killylane is easily twice the size of Straid mate so it must be 40-50 acres

Adrian,
Great report, terrific photographs. An excellent catch on a difficult day.
I get the local Dcal permit for North/East Antrim which includes Killylane but I have never fished it. Does it have the same problems with litter and anti-social behavior that blight my local Woodburn dams? Is it fly only, and if so does that help? Certainly looks a nice place from the photographs.

I hectare is 2.74 acres, say about two and a half. That makes Killylane about 50 acres which is roughly twice the size of Straid. You were right on both counts.

Fossil it is fly only mate and from what I can see its well maintained. If you fancy a day on it sure we could maybe organise a wee trip up to it among ourselves.
