Litter at WoodburnOn Sunday I took the dog and fly rod up to Woodburn dam's
I fished for a few hours at the middle dam, but only saw one fish rise
So with the fishing being a bit slow I used my trusty litter picker and cleaned up the southern shore ,
Two black bin bags full of beer tins, Worm tubs, coke cans etc etc etc
Before
After
Carried it all down to me landrover and deposited them in the skip in work
Why did I do it ?
Woodburm is a lovely location to fish, its 15 minutes up the road from me , I've seen signs up at other DCAL waters threatening to close the waters to anglers if the littering situation continues. I don't want that to happen to Woodburn

But why should they ?
What the hell is wrong with people, I mean , what goes on in peoples heads?
Do they arrive at the venues and say to themselves ,, " hmm nice spot but not enough beer tins lying about the place "
DCAL shouldn't have to clean the place up, there should be no rubbish left behind by irresponsible f***wits
"Take nothing but memories leave nothing but footprints "
that my motto

But the majority of it is "Anglers" or would be perceived to come from "Anglers"
In amongst the beer tins were hook packets, line , worm tubs, spinner packets etc etc , Anybody looking at the mess would automatically assume it was left behind by "Anglers "
Emailing DCAL is a waste of time, been there done that
Maybe when the FCB and DCAL merge at the end of the year things might improve

woodburn damsFair play to you Andy
if it were me i`d be posting the bin bags straigt to DCAL or leaving them on their door step with a strong letter,,
why is it that people think its the anglers that leave this litter ?? when in fact its the POACHERS they see and think they are legal anglers,,surely DCAL most know this..

Andy,
Well done, something far better than just complaining. The litter is one of the issues on these places that I find absolutely heart breaking.
Part of the problem is lack of control of these places, no baliffs, no wardens no official checks, presence or policing of any sort. People are free to do as they please. The only answer, in my opinion, is to have these waters run as a business venture with the angler carrying the costs for the management of them. Paying for them would allow control and investment. Just look at the difference with the private run fisheries.

Unfortunately its the same at Killylane which is 5 minutes away from me. The last time I was up, it was the same story, and someone had dumped a sofa and an old cooker in the car park. "anglers" or fly tippers, I don't know. Makes me wonder about taking the DCAL permit next year.
