Lough Erne 08/03Hi Guys
Headed out to Lower Lough Erne yesterday with the thoughts of the storm brewing but took the chance that the air pressure rises before it falls for the storms forecast for today.
Headed out about 10am from Cammagh bay and it got of to a slow start with nothing happening untill about 3.30pm when I caught the first of the day at about 14 inches but to be honest I didn't deserve it, missed the take in the middle of the retreive too busy talking then cursing my self missed it again as the flies swung around because I was adjusting the boat but lifted off again and dapped over it a third time and nailed it. The fly used was a medium claret bumble size 12 but with the black hackle omited because of the bright conditions. The second and last fish was around the 13 inch mark and took a size 16 duck fly with an orange hot spot.
A good day but by Jesus with the spray from the waves hitting you in the face it felt like I had sun burn on the way home
Pulled the pin around 4.30 as the sky was looking nasty and most importantly I forgot to bring tea bags

Your a braver man than I am Trouts I had a very hairy day on Lough Carra a few years back (Carra is prob the safest lake of the western lakes). It blew a bloody gale and my boat partner whom had never boat fished before was determined to wet a line. He cast out and wasnt able to keep up with his flies which got caught on the underside of the boat, like a twat he leaned out over the side of the boat ro get them we got hit side on by a wave and we almost couped it was only me having to lay over the back end of the boat that saved us. I had no life jacket on and I cant swim a stroke so it scared the shite clen out of me.
At least you got a few fish mate so well done and no matter how bad the weather is once you get a fish on it suddenly brightens your day up doesnt it.

That story is after giving giving me the butterflies but it's good to let the folks thinking of hitting the big lakes know its not all fun and games, and remember you can drown in 1 inch of water never mind 100ft. But the thing about Lough Erne is there are I think 130 something islands through out the system so you will always get a couple of sheltered drifts and hopefully a few fish.
If it comes to the bit where any angler gets afraid of crossing back through the waves don't be the big man, grab an island and wait for it to pass. Stupid mistakes will almost certainly kill you and your boat partner
It was quick thinking you are here to tell us that tale WELL DONE
(DON'T FORGET THE LIFE JACKET IF NOTHING ELSE IT KEEPS YOUR CLOTHES TIGHT AGAINST YOU KEEPING YOU WARM)

Ernethanks for the report troutsbane,,you`re a brave man going out in that
sort of weather its not for the faint hearted but well done getting into a
couple of fish,,,as you rightly say the loughs are not all fun and games and
its very easy to get caught in the middle of a storm,,
golden rule NEVER EVER BE WITHOUT A LIFE JACKET,,,,i personally never go
out without one as there`s no point risking your life all for the sake of a trout,,,

Well done troutsbane at least you got a few fish mate.
Lads, there is no doubt safety is absolutely vital. We all spend a fortune on rods, reels and other gear at thedrop of a hat y not spend the dosh on safety wear!
Wee davy on the site can get life jackets at the right money if anyone needs them. I have done alot of water saftey classes and im telling you it's so easy to get into diffs. No fish in the world is worth it.
Enough of the serious stuff. Cant wait to get out the waves! easter cant come quick enough!!!
keep the reports coming troutsbane..
