Lough Erne

Hi All

a mixed bag of weather with lots of rain and fresh winds it wasn`t for the faint hearted at times,, after a soaking or two Peter aka troutsbane and myself headed for cover without having hooked anything as yet so it was tea time and plan B  with a lot of head scratching,,credit were credits due the man had me around that many islands i was starting to feel dizzy..

tea over and Peter was determined we would hook fish with his plan B which was `i`ll try one of your flies Harry and you try one of mine,,ok i thought fair deal as i handed him my fly box (BIG MISTAKE) what do you fancy Peter ?  hmmmmmm ALL OF THEM was his reply lol,,tell ya what i`ll try that Black dabbler of yours Harry and you try my light claret bumble its a killer.....

couple of drifts later and Peter hooked a nice fish around the 1 & 1/2 pound mark on guess what ? Black Dabbler MINE !!!! to be fair he gihilled me most of the day and on our last drift with virtualy my last cast i hooked into 1 probably around the 1 & 1/4 pound mark (Happy Days) what ya get on Harry ? Light Claret Bumble HIS lol.. two nice fish and a good end to the day with improved weather and Peters fly box now a lot heavier than mine LOL..

not great photos lads as the camera was swiftly taken from the bag
for a couple of quick shots

Both fish returned

Guys,
Brilliant. I have never cast a fly on there Erne even though I have fished it a pile of times for coarse fish and pike. It looks like a real challenge. Those trout look absolutely beautiful.

Good to see someone getting out, work, weather and decorating have seriously curtailed my own outings this past couple of weeks.

Hi Guys
What can I say about that pile if s**t Fiery posted!!! Both flies were MINE the black claret caught the first one and the dark claret bumble with the tippets dyed caught the second and I have never had such a thieving little shit on the boat before honest to God  Laughing  Laughing
But credit where its due he knew his (pretend) bumbles were not up to the job and he asked me for mine Shocked  it takes a real man to admit he still has a lot to learn.  Fair play.
I know! why doesnt every one ask Fiery for the patterns we caught on? He is a sound skin I'm sure he would love to tie them for you folks  Laughing

But seriously that fish was no 14 for me this season so far with only 2 under size. Any one that hasn't fished or is thinking of fishing Lower Lough Erne give it a go because its shaping up to be a class season. Dont be daunted by the size just be carefull of the shoreline and at least take someone that will weigh the front of the boat. I had to put a 5 gallon drum filled with water beside Fiery so we could cross the waves (little fairy)
