Mallusk (winter league) STRAID

Hi All

a pretty good day all round for those who managed to make it,,i`ll leave the facts a figures to Wattys Rock (our comp secretary)...

as brief summary is as folows

Tony Cooper had the same fortune today as i had on the last outing,, hooking fish but couldn`t keep them on,,his boat partner Larry done a little better with 2 fish,,the weather was a mixed bag of winds and rain but in general it was a decent enough day as the wind was quite warm,,Davey Couples had 2 fish and lost a few,,Bill Chapman must`ve been taking lessons from Tony lo he too was hooking fish but hadn`t managed to net any,Big Jackie and myself were having the same sort of day so it seemed as though the fish had the upper hand UNTIL Wattys Rock announced hot food was being served,,,the fish were there, but they just weren`t playing ball, that was everyone's thoughts

lunch over,,back out in the boats and at last the tide had turned,,fish were being hooked and netted,,Bill had 4 fish in 5 casts,,the general feel spreading round the lake was that all anglers were having good sport  and things seemed to progress from there,,Jackie and i were both hooking fish then loosing them until i netted a nice fish of just over 1lb 8oz,,then came Jackie's turn he too had netted 3 fish then i had another quite close to 3lb one of the most beautiful over wintered fish i`d had in a long time it was fin perfect (fish returned),,no one will top that said Jackie,,that's what i thought until Jackie hooked another fish that nearly ripped the rod from his hand,,i handed him the net and congratulated him on a splendid catch that i estimated at a very conservative 4lb absolute mint condition rainbow(fish returned),,,,that was definitely the fish of the day no question,,,we decided to head in early (both with silly grins),, all in all the day was very productive and everyone concerned had fish in the boat with the exception of one angler who shall remain anonymous (Tony lol) a very enjoyable day was had by all and the hot food was greatfuly recieved (many thanks Wattys Rock TOP CHEF) all fish were taken on wets with a mixture of Lures in Black,Green,Orange and silver,, Dabblers, buzzers, and Snatchers

on behalf of Mallusk Angling Society thanks again to Adrian Young (fishery manager) for yet another splendid day

Regards

catch reports

yes mate there sure is and some beauties among them,,i forgot to mention the cracking fish that i had,had a size 14 Gold Head PTN in its upper jaw, looked as though it was quite recently hooked in that the hook was not rusted at all so it must`ve smashed somebody as i was able to take the fly out quite easily,,myself and Big Jackie had well over a dozen fish between us,,the girth on Jackies and the colour was a sight to behold an absolute cracker..
Darren

Just a quick word on the final day of the MAS winter league. Sun 17th Feb.

A total of twelve anglers turned out for the final day, which turned out to be a rather difficult one for all, but to those who perservered, the rewards were good. A flat calm and sunny conditions tested everyones skills as well as sharing the lake with another 20 anglers, which made getting into the known hotspots more difficult. A few fish were caught by lunchtime (burgers and home made soup) and tactics and flies that were doing the biz were discussed. (we are like that in the MAS, no secrets) Orange and green were the colour of the day for some reason and the old FD accounting for some fish.
At the close of play at 5 o'clock, B. Bryans was the winner on the day with his bag limit of three fish, returning a further 4.
D. Couples only managed 1 fish, but this was enough to make him the winner over the four outings. Well done Davy.

Final result, !st D,Couples, 2nd M. Telford, and 3rd B. Chapman. Cool

A final thanks to Adrian for hosting the competion over the winter.
