Moorbrooke FisheryHeaded to Co.Derry/L'Derry this morning to fish what used to be my regular, Moorbrooke Fishery.
I arrived at the lodge around 11am and a warm greeting as usual from William (Fishery Owner). We chatted about recent events and how things were going for them. After a good chat and some friendly banter I set up the 9ft 6in Greenheart with a floating line. I saw a load of fish taking off the surface so striaght away I put on a size 14 CDC F Fly. First cast I rose a fish but missed it, as was the case for the next few casts until I worked out the way the fish were taking the dries. Sometimes when a fish comes to your dry it aint always that it will take the fly straight away. Instead they drown the fly for a mili second then take it as it just goes under the surface. 1st fish was a lovely fish of around 2lb well marked with good fins. I took a further 6 fish on the F fly so I thought right I know what the fish are taking lets try buzzers to see if they were interested in these.
I changed to around a 20ft leader made of flurocarbon. I set up a dropper about 5ft from the point fly. I attached 2 of my quill buzzers in size 10 and cast at rising fish. I tend to fish my buzzers with a slow slow retreive but they wanted them static so after a few casts I nailed my first fish on the buzzer. Another 2 fish were returned after this on this method.
Ok they wanted my buzzers now for a change again lol. I took off the buzzers and replaced them with a GHHE and a PTN which had been successful for me at Woodford the previous day. 2 fish came to the GHHE.
For the last hour I fished a black sleetch type lure on the floater and 1st cast I hit into a big fish. As some people know I like to get the fish in and released as quickly as possible and I use 6lb flurocarbon so in reality it should cope with most situations. After a good scrap I released a fish of probably around the 10lb mark. A few more casts proved fruitless until I got the slightest tap on the lure. Then another tap tap tap. I lifted into what I thought was a small rainbow only to find that I had indeed hooked a Perch of around 1lb. Id never seen a perch in real life before and I was amazed at the beautiful colours these coarse fish have. The bright red fins and the big spikey dorsal fin.
A great days fishing yet again but by god was the weather up there harse, I endured rain, sleet, snow and hail for my quarry but it didnt dampen my enthusiasm.

Great report Adrian and one hell of a catch. We had hail stones like golf balls here so the weather was certainly something to endure.
Perch really are a beautiful fish and a pound is a good one. Where they occur they readily take a fly.

Great report mate and what a good day by the sound of things. Sorry I couldn't make it. Maybe get up there with you again sometime in the near future. I had to endure paint charts and looking at wallpaper all day. You know how it is when the "boss" gets a day off.

Hmmm, I've a ceiling to do. I've heard that Michael Angelo bloke's pretty good at them. I might do that and a bit of housework tomorrow (the other half's away this weekend) then take my dad to Movilla on Sunday.

That Michael Angelo bloke is very good indeed. I tried to touch the curtains, but they were painted on. I am sure I was not the first. Would be a bugger to paint over if the missus wanted to go back to white though.
