Hi All

here is a great little sedge pattern i put together that works well fished static,in a rolling wave,or simply twitched across the surface...

i decided to tie this after i`d been working on another fly for the loughs and hey presto it turned out just as i thought it would,,i`ve tried this out and also gave it to a few friends who have had fish on it also, its not to difficult to tie so have a go and see how you get on.......

Hook: size 12
thread: Black Uni 8.0
Antennae: Black brush Fibers or Pheasant Tail fibers
Body Dubbing: Colour of your choice
under body: Pheasant Tail Fibers (tied thorax style)

Step 1
place the hook in the vice and wind on the thread (4/5 wraps)

Step 2
tie in the Antennae facing forward of the hook eye and continue
to the bend of the hook

Step 3
if you have a Rotary vice turn it over and tie in a few Pheasant Tail Fibers
just under the eye of the hook and wind towards the bend.....
if you dont have a Rotary vice then place the hook upside down in your
vice and begin the process

Step 4
once you reach the bend of the hook take the thread forward to the eye
and you should now have something like this

Step 5
tie in a hackle across the shank of the hook close to the eye...
this hackle is similar in colour to Elk Hair but you can use a colour to suit
your needs ie Red Game,Ginger,Brown or even Black...
i chose this colour to match the colour of a Long Horn Sedge which is
quite pale

Step 6
make a rope of Dubbing to form a body (colour to suit your needs) and
wind back to the bend of the hook...

Step 7
wind the hackle all the way to the bend in close touching turns then wind
the thread back through the hackle to secure it (this give the hackle some
added strenght) and stop a few millimeteres before the eye

Step 8
turn the hook upside down,,pull all the Pheasant Tail Fibers forward and
tie in just under the eye of the hook.. this leaves a lovely effect without
having to trim the under side of the hackle and makes the hook sit right
in the surface...

Step 9
a Different angle so you can see the effect that the Pheasant Tails has
made to the fly

Step 10
a view from ABOVE,,all thats left now is to whip finish and varnish

Step 11
its worth while to varnish the under side of the fly ie the Pheasant Tail
Fibers as a trouts teeth are sharp and can nip through the fibers causing
them to unwind.....
