photographing flies

a quick post to help with photo work for fly tying

background best if its a lightish blue causes less shadow and non reflective will make fly stand out best

set background a minimum of 18 inches behind subject but further back is better just need bigger background (it should be burred anyway)

try not to use flash instead suplement light (daylight bulbs work best here)

use a tripod at same distance each time

the aim is to get the crispest image not the biggest to fill the frame this can be done later by cropping image

try to use an apeture of between f8-f11 this will give a short amount of depth of feild enough to have fly sharp and background blurred

hope this helps will post up more bits n bobs as they come to mind
