Hi  Andy  we would fish of the rocks around Ardglass for pollock & mackerel useing streamer like flies & sinking lines. We also fish for bass at Carlingford useing floating lines & poppers. My mate was talking to a guy who said the fishing at ORLOCK was good. I think that,s near Bangor not sure yet but we,er gonna suss that out & i,ll let you know. Flyfishing in the sea is great craic but i would ask all forum members who fish for BASS to catch & release as they are like the salmon there in decline  Crying or Very sad . Always be alert & make sure you know the tides  Surprised  the sea can whip up some mighty BIG WAVES  Shocked .  Wearing a floatation vest is recomended as i said fishing the sea can get pretty rough but thankfully not all the time  Very Happy

i was going to buy some specialist gear, but i think i'll try and get away with my old reservoir gear.

I quite fancy going for some mackerel as i think they are the nicest fish to eat. but what sort of flies could i use, i was thinking of the sparkler

what about marks on antrim coast?

Andy i wouldn,t go to any great expense. I use my old trout rod 10.6ft my reel is a shakespear mustang 2641 & spare spools cheap as chips not much metal on it for the salt to corrode. I have two 40+ lines ones a sinker the other a floater i like these for distance. My flies or lures are tied with 3" mixed coloured hair which i get from cheap halloween masks  Laughing i tie these on a mustad c47sd saltwater hook which i debarb i add crystal flash or any other sparkly stuff i have lying about  Wink I stick eyes on & epoxy the head. They do catch fish !!! As for marks to fish on the Antrim coast we have never fished around it but we,re going to have a look this year & i,ll let you know.

gotto to try the flies out, they look amazing under the water. I only got a short amount of fly fishing done as there was alot of guys there that needed to get tackle shorted for them. i'd forgotten how fiddley shore fishing was. We were at rosses point near sligo, i think it would probably be a better mackeral mark, but apparently they get a good run of sea trout. Thanks again, i'll have to get out and give them a proper dunking

Glad you liked swff you should have tried for the sea trout but with smaller flies like teal blue and silvers. Ive even caught sea trout on a small white baby doll lure in both the erne estury & strangford.

Was  a bit confused over the legality of fishing for sea trout. i don't think i would have had the appropriate license. just had the dcal license

I suppose your right about licences Andy. I spend a fortune on them & i belong to 3 fishing clubs aswell. You can buy the foyle licence for £ 1 with your DCAL i don,t know if you can get it with just your rod licence that,ll do you for there system that includes Carlingford aswell if your after bass or sea trout. To fish the erne estury you need a local or state licence its all very confusing. Some anglers say fishing in the sea is free to be honest i don,t know maybe someone on the forum knows ? but with the amount of licences & tags for salmon i have i think im covered !!! Im thinking of employing a sectretary to sort out all the paper work you have to fill in at the end of the season. Whoever said fishing was easy  Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

the fish in the sea are free all right. I think that was in the magna carta or something. But sea trout have their own wee loop hole
