Sharpes Belmont 9'6" #7I appear to have won a rod. I can remember entring at least two competitions in the recent past where this was one of the prizes. It arrived yesterday with no other documentation, so no idea as yet where I won it from.
Have not fished with it yet, may be a little while before I can manage that, but I have had a good look and tried a few different lines while having a little cast in the garden. Early days, but first impressions are good.
It retails for, I think, about £100 and for that sort of money it seems very good value. I am thinking Grey's GRXi in price and performance range and would imagine it compares very favourably. Colour is a very pleasant sage/mossy green colour with green whippings and decent fittings. Reel seat is a rather strange coppery coloured affair which I am not sure about, but the cork handle is excellent.
In the hand it has a fairly soft, middle tip action which handles a 7 floater or intermediate very nicely. User friendly and I would imagine a first class beginners rod. Very unlike my much stiffer and faster Sharpes Gordon 2 #7 which is happy with #8 lines and fast sinkers, this rod is definitely happier with a 7 floater.
Impressions so far are of a pleasant actioned good value for money piece of kit, that I think someone of my limited ability could on with very well. I will update my thoughts when I have had a chance to fish with it.
Very happy to have won it.

Just receieved a letter from Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine telling me of my prize. Sharpe's are to be in touch, but they were obviously one step ahead. Delighted with both sharpes and FF&FT.

FF had this rod down at Woodford the other day, seemed a very good rod for an rrp of less than £100, it was nicely finished with an action very suited to a beginner
