Sharpes Gordon Mark 2, 10' #7

Got myself one of these as a second rod for Woodford. I intended to buy the 7/8 Greyflex M2 as I am very pleased with my 6/7 and wanted something slightly heavier for sinking line work. Darren recommended the Sharpes as an alternative.

First impressions, this is a very attractive and well finished rod. Beautiful cork in a very slim handle with an unusual green dark wood insert. Cut away reel seat in a dark mettallic satin finish with two rubber lined locking screws. The blank is finished in a dark bronze with maroon whippings and gold trims. Gold alignment arrows on the sections are a nice touch. Whippings and finish are excellent, and the snake rings are dark smoked colour instead of the usual siver. As far as looks are concerned, this one is a looker.

Feels very light and slim in the hand, and although still a middle tip action, it is a bit tippier and much stiffer than my Greyflex.  Handled a #8 Cortland blue intermediate perfectly. When playing a fish you realise that this is quite a powerful rod, despite it's lightness and extreme slimness.

RRP is £165, which in my opinion makes this superb value for money. Highly recommended.

Fossil I had a Sharpes and found it to be a bit poker like but then I had intended using it for grilse. I broke the tip section so I must try to get it reeplaced as I quite liked the rod

Adrian, you need to contact them soon as they are doing away with the Mk1.

I found the action to be quite smooth but powerful. Bends higher than the Greyflex and more of a progressive nature compared to a more  through action of the Greys, but would still describe it as middle to tip.

Really noticed the difference when I hooked a fish. I had to modify my playing action quite a bit to compensate for the stiffness, but nothing severe. Sharpes say that this rod is more tip actioned than the Mk1, but I have cast a Mk1 and didn't like it. Could really live with this for sinking line work.

Adrian, you should have sent the card to Sharpe's to register the rod, this is mayby why you dont have it.

Give them a call 01592870331
