i have been hearing alot of buzz about sinktip lines, have anybody got any views on them? any makes that stand out? i try to limit the amount of lines i buy but i've heard this is a good all rounder.

dont know to much about them but i do have a Midge tip line,,slightly different to the sink tip in that only the first few inches sink below the surface holding the flies under the water and apparently very good for buzzer fishing although i haven`t got the best out of the line yet,,,

you could try buying a braided sink leader they come in 5 or 10 feet,,simply attach it to your floating line by way of a loop then tie on your tippet to the end of the braid,,i use them now and then and they only cost around £5 it saves you having to buy a new line and now your floater has a sink tip attached to the end,,they also come in intermediate.. You might like to try something like this.....

I would definitely recommend the Rio Midge Tip, I have been using 1 for the last couple of years for my buzzer fishing on still waters, both from the bank and boat, it also comes in handy for fishing the washing line method.

But as Firey Brown says a 5' sink leader does work as well and it will save you the exspense of a new line and spare spool.

Midge tip lines are very good ,, some sink tips are not the nicest things to cast , but the Rio Midge tip lines are pretty good ,, want it to fish deeper stick a gold head on the point Very Happy

I had kinda assummed that a sinktip and a midge tip line were the same thing, thanks for straightening that out. i had looked at the attachable lenghts, but i'm a pretty bad caster and the less changes in lines as possible is best for me.
the rio midge tip sounds the best at the mo but price tag putting me off £49!!! may be using the braided sink leader might be better.

also i've been looking for some buzzer pattern on straight hooks(aparently they fish better if retrieving?), but nowhere seems to do them, i'm tempted to tie me own, but past attempts are putting me off

i have a Rio Midge Tip and intend using it as much as possible this year,,i only just got it at the end of last season and havent had a chance to really put it to use yet,,,,,,,

if you need a little help with tying PM me and i`ll arrange to give you a few basic pointers,,,,,,

if your casting is giving you a little trouble i`d suggest investing in a lesson or two from a qualified instructor,,5 or 6 of us got together a few weeks ago at Straid and had casting lessons with Stevie Munn,,best money you`ll ever spend,have a word with him he`s on here........

i dread that. I'm kinda largely self taught, as such, i'll probably have to have all mannor of bad habits beaten out of me. One day i'll get up the nerve.

now you're up at straid i might give you a call, what sort of price do you charge? You can PM me the price if you want. I saw the article you did for ireland fly fishing mag, those dollaghan look pretty good, they're a species i don't know much about though.

Also, i got one of those midge tip lines, they're pretty cool stuff, although the loop at the end slaps the water pretty hard, i think i might get rid of the loop and replace it with braided loop, although also might try the nail knot thingy i hear they do the job well.
