skips turn on indicators

I tend to use indicators with buzzers  and have had alot of probs with finding a decent bung. Bought these a while back and i think they're great, easy to put on/remove and they won't slip.

i shouldn't really have bought them as i'm trying to get off my pimp dependancy. But i'll always fall back on them on a slow day.

Andy,
Have tried indicators on and off, and just found that I could not get on with them. Slipping up and down the line was one problem, coming off completely was another. Will keep my eye open for these and give them a try. Where did you get yours?

had to order them from sportfish, they were the only guys who did them, £5 plus postage, a bit steep. but because they don't come off and you don't have to wrap line around them they should last for ages. i tried the yarn approach too, way too fiddly and they slipped badly, although they hardly effected your cast. the turn on ones just slip on and you turn the two halfs around and the elastic inside grips the line.

I have used the 'pimp' ones, in fact caught three fish today with them. I find they continually slip down the leader. I have seen guys put them on the end of the fly line but I don't see the point. That would just give the fish more to pull under and decrease the sensitivity. Something that you can take on and off without breaking down the leader, and that would stay where you put it, sounds like it could be useful. There were certainly bites today where I neither saw the line move or felt a take whilst fishing static buzzers.

Ive tried most of them and the only 1 I really like is float dough but then again i just put it onto my braided leader and fish a shorter cast. As Fossil has said it definately aids bite detection and certainly there are bites you'd miss if you hadnt these on. I love fishing a flexi bloodowrm under it with a good ripple on the water... Really like the look of these and have ordered some.

Cool

thats them, they're ingenious(skips better be paying me for advertising). plus because they have two colours you can fish with the yellow side or the orange facing you depending on the light.

with the pimp ones you can wrap the leader around them and then put in the tube, this will stop it slipping, it will ruin the pimp though. a couple of times when a bigger fish struck, the pimp has split in two when i've struck.

Got to try these today at Woodford, even mananged to catch a fish on one.

First impressions were very good. The fixing system is very clever and very effective. The indicator is made in two interlocking halves held together by an elasticated core. After the line is inserted, into a slot running the length of the indicator, twisting will cause the indicator to lock onto the line. Once in place they will not slide on the line as other indicators do. It is also impossible for the indicator to come off the line. The two halves of the indicator are different colours, orange and yellow, and this allows you to choose which colour will be seen by you from the bank. So far so good.

Now the downside. My packet are described as medium. They are smaller than a medium sized fish pimp. Also the pimp is rugby ball shaped and tends to sit very high in the water. The skips are a very regular pill shape and sit very low in the water. The small size, low position, and the fact that the paint is just not as bright as the pimp, meant that I found these indicators very difficult to see. In fact in difficult light or even a slight wave, at normal stillwater range, I found these to be useless for my eyesight. It should be noted that I am not a great caster, and the distance I was using these at was not exceptional.

Perhaps a larger size would be useful. They were quite expensive, but the fixing system is quite superb and would be worth the money if they could be seen over a greater distance and all conditions.

i wish i'd gone for the larger size too. at range they're hard to see.

Looking at the Sportfish website, there appears to be small and medium. Can not find a large size anywhere, but if I do I think I will grab a packet.
thebigandyt

let me know if you see any.
cheers

Certainly will Andy.

Last few times I have tried using the pimps with a cocktail stick instead of the rubber tubing. After pushing in the cocktail stick I just break the ends off level with the indicator. It definintely stays put and I have not had one come off yet, but it much less movable. I also find that I am unable to remove it without breaking the leader down and sliding it off.

At least I can see them very clearly, and although not perfect, I think that I will stick with this system for the present.
thebigandyt

i hadn't thought of that. SOunds good. i wonder if you could use the stick method on the yarn ones. the yarn dosn't land so heavily on the water and it is very visible. It also dosn't effect the cast as much
