STRAID 23rd Sep 2008Hi All
decide to have a day at Straid to put the Crunchers through their paces and see how they faired,,,
set up my 9.6 Greenheart 6WT rod with a 15ft Tippet and 3 crunchers 5ft apart,,
i was afloat no more than 10 minutes when i was into a fish of around 2 and 1/2 lb "good start i thought" 5 minutes later brought the second fish of similar size and back he went,,things were looking good,,10 more minutes brought fish number 3, a while later was fish number 5 and then 6,,,they had all taken the medium olive Cruncher and taken it well which was on the point of my cast,,,i decided to switch the flies around on the cast just see if there was any difference with the Olive one now on the middle dropper...
half an hour later brought number 7 then 8 and 9 came in quick succession..by now most of the fish were still taking the Olive cruncher over everything else,,,i swithched it to the top dropper after i`d had a Coffee around 1pm..
the rest of the day was pretty much the same story with me hooking 18 Rainbows in all and loosing only my last two fish but everything else was safely in the boat as were another Three browns the heaviest being 1lb 20z all in all i`d had,,,21 fish in total with only 2 lost...
a very good day for me and off home at 6pm..i tried all sorts of retrieves from slow FO8 to long draw pulls and dead drifting the flies... below are a few fish of the day
my 3rd fish
what a great fly that cruncher was for me LOL
back you go
almost every fish was in great condition
my boat partner was dead lucky with the browns LOL
anothe one for him
now it was my turn
this one took the Black Cruncher on the dropper
need i say any more
look at the state of that Fly
this is the Olive one that did the damage for most of the fish
a happy ending
Regards
