Straid fishery

Me and me dad had a wee race up to Straid today. We arrived about 1030 and tackled up. There were fish rising off the red barn so thats where we headed first, floating line and a team of buzzers to start with. There was a slight ripple on the water and plenty of fish moving. Not a touch on the buzzers but me dad had a wee brownie on an olive nymph.

After a while a good ripple came on the water and we seen a few fish splashing, so a quick change to a green deerhair sedge pattern and a black dabbler brought me my first fish of about 3lb. Another followed about 5 minutes later, both took the sedge pattern.

To be honest, not one particular fly seemed to be doing the biz and it was a case of changing flies a lot. We had fish on bumbles, dabblers and later on the old cats wisker and an orange fritz done the trick. I had my last fish on a gold muddler and fish seemed to chase this but were reluctant to oblige.

All in all a good day finishing with 11 fish in the boat including two at about 3lb and a couple of nice brownies. Good craic.
