Sunburst Dabbler

UV Sunburst Dabbler

a great looking pattern which im looking forward to trying out as i have not fished this yet,,

there are a few variations of the fly out there and this one IS NOT my own pattern i simply used the materials i had at hand so feel free to substitute with your own materials

Hook: kamasan b175 size 10#
thread: Black UNI 8.0
rib: fine gold wire
tail: fluo orange floss and Bronze Mallard
body: UV Sunburst micro fritz
hackle: Yellow hen
wing: Bronze Mallard

Step 1
run the thread along the hook stopping before the
bend and tie in the Gold Wire

Step 2
tie in a piece of Fluorescent orange floss with 2 or 3 turns
of thread to form part of the tail

Step 3
wind the thread forward towards the eye of the hook to
create an even body and trim the waste,,then trim the
tail to length and take the thread back down to the bend of
the hook ready to tie in the next material

Step 4
tie in a piece of Bronze Mallard to form the next part
of the tail winding forward towards the eye and trim off
the waste,,then take the thread back to the bend of the hook
(as in step 3)

Step 5
tie in a length of UV Sunburst micro fritz again winding forward
and stop a few millimeters before the eye

Step 6
wind on the fritz in touching turns and with each turn pull the
fibers of the fritz backwards so that they dont get trapped underneath
and this should form a straggle effect body (as below)

Step 7
take a yellow hen hackle and strip away the fluffy fibers to leave
the stem bare (this makes it easier to tie in) and tie in right beside
the body material with 2 or 3 turns of thread then trim the waste

Step 8
make 1 full turn of the hackle at the start then gradually wind back
towards the bend of the hook in OPEN turns,,once you have reached the
tail take the gold wire rib and wind through the hackle towards the eye
and tie off,, you are now ready for the wing  Very Happy

Step 9
cut a piece of Bronze Mallard and hold it between your finger and
thumb in this fashion ready to be tied in

Step 10
place the Mallard in front of the hackle and make 2 or 3 turns of thread
to hold it in place,,once in place check to see if it needs adjusted,,
(i had to adjust this a couple of times to get the desired effect) if it does
need adjusted use your thumb nail to push it into place then tie down
firmly,, trim the waste,, and whip finish....

Final Step
remember to Varnish the head
you dont want all that good work to fall apart  Laughing  Laughing
The final product ENJOY !  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

i`ve yet to fish this pattern so hopefuly it`ll take a fish or two

All comments/questions welcome
