sunday 6th our club open day comp

after stocking the reservoir with 300+ fish and their week to settle is was time to go fishing

well as we left home at 08:30 the clouds looked ominous and sure enough we got rain sleet and hail on drive up to girvan approx 28 miles north of stranraer

as kyle started to gear up with floaty suit the snow started and lasted until 30 mins after start of comp at 09:00

wind was from north cold and force 4-5  Crying or Very sad

but credit to the juniors they all stuck it out till 13:00

kyle has only ever used a wf floating line and I didn't want him experimenting with inters or sink lines at the comp so a longer leader for him of 12 ft saw him into the odd fish

his first fish was a shde under 2lb and gave a fair account of its self

then the lost fish started to bug him as he lost three in a row if he was allowed the air would have been blue but he aint so he said things under his breath that i didnt catch Confused

the his luck turned and he hooked into his best fish of the day a 2 3/4lb blue. He took approx 8 mins of hard graft to land the fish to applause from the onlookers

this is just after he managed to get all his hand stripped line back on the reel before it was pulled back off by a steaming run

he was exhausted when he finally landed it and tiredness began to kick in and he lost his next and only further bite

coditions had improved as in their was nothing falling from the sky but that was about all.

he finished 4th of male juniors just outside the prizes but won a priest in the raffle

winning junior had 10 fish  14 juniors cometed and 30 fish were landed

during the junior event i was busy in my pop up bivy  at my wee stove making fried sausage square and normal for kids n adults

the adults got the best of the day in the pm between 14:00 and 19:00
22 anglers competed 110 Shocked fish landed (2 tagged fish for vouchers)

i managed 5 landed and 5 lost on a sinking line n various shades of cats whiskers and montanas

the senior winner landed 17 and lost approx 6

the weather turned towards the end and as the sun stered to fade it got really cold again wind was everpresent but great fun had by all

Another great report, and of course photographs. Well done to the youngsters.

You are obviously sharing our weather. Not much sign of any great improvment.
