swff requirements

hey b0ogaloo could you give all a heads up on gear  for SWFF  Cool please
b0ogaloo

I'll try Very Happy

Rod... 8-9-10 #  my preference is a fast actioned 9#  Saltwater proof  is a must , the salt takes no prisoners, its hard on Tackle especially reels

Reel .. to suit rod, large arbour to hold plenty of backing . a big Pollock or Bass will soon strip your line , and you cant hold them , even if you have a van stal  ,strip it wash it throughly after every trip,.

Leader... forget about tapered leaders etc   too expensive to lose
I use 2 ' of 60lb mono to  4 foot of 30 flouro tied to a tippet ring and then the tippet of your choice .. generally i'd use  3' of 12-15lb flouro

Line ...  I use Rio lines ... simply because they are the best in my opinion
Most of my fishing is done with a Rio striped bass int 9#

Rio outbounds are also  superb

stripping basket and wading staff are also essientials, do not go for the collapsable basket type, get   the solid washing basin type ones  orvis do one or theres a how to on you tube

Flies ... generally bait fish patterns work the best. clousers, deceivers , hollow fleyes, flatwings , my personal preference is for big patterns 6-8"
All of my biggest fish have been on big flies

however ... these take a bit of getting used to when casting ... in fact they take a lot of getting used too

when  fishing in the sea the wind is a big problem, and chucking a fly the size of a budgie into it , just isn't so easy

Sometimes its a matter of chuck and duck ... and always always wear sunglasses or safety glasses
