The Kells

Its that time again, with the water over the weekend the dollaghen have made there way up the kells, no big numbers yet but a decent average size, (2lb) seen some bigger fish running tho. hopefully a few more will make there way up river on thursday as wednesday is to be pretty wet, tied a few killers this evening and im looking forward to interviewig a few dollies, Anyone looking to fish the kells can purchace a day ticket at Kilgad Fishery, should be worth a throw on thursday (i know i'll be out)

fished the kells tonite for trout, finished with about 40 trout up to about 12 inch's which is about average for the river, the trout arnt to hard caught on nymphs and wee spiders but there good sport on an 8ft 4# especially wen you get a double hook up and thats pretty common on the kells, didnt see any dollies but i know there's a few about, lets see what the water brings tomorrow

Kells

nice one Mick,,with this drop of rain we are having (and more on the way) it should freshen up the rivers..i wonder how the Sixmile will fair this year for Salmon and Dollaghan ? i`ve heard from a friend that there isn`t much happening on the Moy either but i suppose you can say that for most of the rivers due to the lack of rain....

the water was a nice hight this mornin but a bit on the dirty side, but plenty of fish about, i must have seen at least 50 dollies running the weir's up and down the river, i managed to land 4 and lose another 3 before the water level rose and the river became to dirty, roll on monday till i try and get at them again

Fished the kells again tonite, landed 1 dollie through the evening and then headed to a wee spot thats good comin into dark, water levels stilla little high 4 night fishin but the first half hour fished well, after landing another 5 fish up2 2lb it died off so i didnt feel bad about headin off the river early

Mick,
Sounds like great fishing. Is this day ticket water as well?

FF I think a day ticket is £12 at the minute and it goes up at the the end of this month to £15. Cool

day tickets are as previously stated. They can be purchased from Kilgad Lake, and from Mid Antrim Angling centre in Ballymena as well as Duncans filling station in kells. Season tickets can be purchased for £75. Anybody wishing to fish the kells for an evening for dollaghan, please feel free to contact either me or mick and we wil be happy to help you get the fish and will sort you out with tickets.

Cheers guys,
That is definitely of interest.

fished again tonite for a couple of hours, the water was a bit higher than i would have liked for nite fishing so we to make do with day light hours, i let colin fish the pool first but it was wasted on him (not a pull), i started to fish the pool behind him and got a good pull second cast and hooked and landed a dollie by my fourth cast, another two pulls going down the pool but pulls were all they amounted to, the next run down the pool i landed another dollie of about 1 1/2 lb and colin hooked and lost a couple of fish at the tail of the pool, should b a good height for night fishing over the weekend and should fish better

Kells

Went out last night to moorfields carry, water conditions where slightly high but clear, so decided to wait to dark before fishing, as conditions looked good with cloudy skies. I managed to land 6 nice dollaghan ranging from 1lb 4oz to 2lb, all on a mixture of wets, including stoat and silver, kingfisher butcher and dunkeld. If there is no more rain the kells will definitly fish well tonite.

fished the kells 2nte for the first time in a couple of weeks as its not been fishin well, the water waswell up and pretty coloured so the fly's were out of the question so out came the spinning rod, i landed 2 dollies at 1 1/2lb and lost anoher 5 on a yellow flyin c wit a gold blade and managed to hook and loose a salmon on a black and silver flyin c, very few fish moving but the water's in good order and should b till the weekend so i would expect a good run of fish and with a bit of luck i'll fall in wit a few more dollies cos ive had a pretty poor season so far

Good report from the Kells mick

i would`ve thought it was fishing a bit better than this due to the amount of rain we`ve had over the last load of weeks..
