Firey Brown (UV Fritz) Bumble

Here is the Firey Brown Bumble with a UV micro fritz body,, in the tying you`ll notice i`ve used 2 hackles tied in, and wound together to palmer the body this is done to make the fly sit higher on the surface but feel free to use 1 hackle its your choice...........

hook: kamazan b175 size 10#
thread: black uni 6.0
rib: oval gold
tail: dark red swan
body: UV micro fritz (colour Firey Brown)
hackles: 2 Firey Brown
head hackle: Grouse

Step 1
run thread to the bend of the hook
and tie in the oval gold rib

Step 2
take a slip of red Swan (or similar) and tie in
to form the tail

Step 3
take a lenght of UV micro Fritz,tie in and run the
thread back along the hook towards the eye

Step 4
wind on the fritz in touching turns taking care to stroke
the fibers back as you go along to form the body and tie off

Step 5
take 2 hackles of similar proportion and strip off the fluffy
fibers at the base to leave a bare stem,,they should look
something like this

Step 6
tie BOTH hackles (one on top of the other) in front of
the body with 2 or 3 turns of thread

Step 7
wind BOTH hackles together towards the bend of the hook
and secure by winding the rib up through the hackles towards
the eye and tie in
your fly should now look something like this

Step 8
take 1 Grouse feather and strip away the fluffy fibers
from the base of the stem

Step 9
holding the feather by the TIP gently stroke the fibers back
so that the feather has this appearence,, a grouse feather has a
similar appearence and feel of an English partridge feather and
may be tied in the same fashion

Step 10
tie in the Grouse feather by the TIP with 2 or 3 turns of thread
and trim off the waste

Step 11
wind 2 or 3 touching turns of the feather towards the eye
tie in and whip finish

Step 12
Always remember to Varnish the head
you dont want all that good work to fall apart Laughing

The finished Fly,,,,ENJOY Very Happy

Adrian its simply a matter of perseverance,it happens to me all the time its common when you tie in two hackles together for them to part slightly as you wind back towards the bend of the hook..when i first started to tie like this i rarely managed to get it right,,i would`ve got it maybe 2 times out of 10,,but now its more 5 or 6 times out of 10,, what i have notice though is that tying with Saddles as opposed to ordinary capes is much easier,,the main reason is the stem of a saddle is more supple and both feathers tend not to part from each other as often and also i always WAX the thread as it grips the stems and holds both hackles in place,,then i take 1 full turn at the start and this also tends to keep both hackles together before continuing to the bend of the hook..hope this is helpful mate

Tack4,,yes i grip the hackles together using Hackle Pliers,,i have 2 different types but its hard to explain to you which ones i use for different methods,,,when i get a chance later i`ll try to post a couple of Photos of the Hackle Pliers that i use and a quick Demo of them in action to give the general idea....

F.B what I do no is actually wet the 2 hackles before i start to tie them in by just running them thru my gub. It holds the 2 hackles together.
