What is this fly?Does anybody know what this fly is? an angler caught it on Saturday when i was working, then i found a couple more flying about. My initial thought was a mayfly but my entomology isn't as good as some of you, maybe stevie munn will know

I may be wrong here but il have a stab at it lol. I think its a large pond olive. I think Mayflies have 3 tails.

Chris mate i could be wrong lol.I dont think Mayflies are found this far up in Ireland which makes me think its a large pond olive

Spot on Adrian a "pond olive" and yes you wouldn`t get Mayfly this far north of the border i believe,,

there are a lot of tyings for pond olives Chris but you could try something like a CDC wing and detached body it should do nicely...

how far south would you need to go for the big mayfly hatches? i've never seen one, but would love to fish one.

erne usually has mayfly, likes of corrib and melvin are good i hear, ask stevie he will know

Yeah the Erne is the most northerly Lough where the Mayfly is found.

i take it the hatchs will start soon, i've heard end of may start of june. I'm going to have to try and take my canoe there, or can you hire boats?
