Winter Flies

Hi All

with the brown trout season almost over and now that we are well and truly in the grips of Autumn most of us will have plenty of spare time on our hands to replenish our fly boxes with the good old patterns that served us well throughout the season...

its time now to replace all those flies that we left in fish, the long grassy banks and up that damned tree that ought to have been cut down years ago..

which of YOUR favourite patterns will you need to replace and more over are there any NEW patterns that you`ve came across this season that you consider a MUST HAVE fly in your box for the Autumn and Winter ??

Grassy banks, trees? Glad it's not just me.  Very Happy

Patterns from last winter which I am tying up are black tadpoles, cat's whisker, and small pink and white lures. All were succesful for me.

New patterns for trying will be a range of apps type bloodworms and cormorants tied with micro straggle bodies. Have also tied up a few blobs with beaded heads for fishing under an indicator.

Must say that I am looking forward to my winter fly fishing. The only thing that really puts me off are strong winds.

Shuggies ummmmmmmm I love that word my fave all time lure there Straid. I had 1 tied by the creator of the fly and my god it was deadly..also known as a chuck and duck lol.

Shuggie is the affectionate name we have for the humungus lure Fossil. Get the proper tying mate and theres not a trout either brown or bow that can resist it.
david reid
