Woodford Fly FisheryTook myself off to Woodford fishery today and met up with some forum members for a few hours fishing.
By all accounts the wind didnt know what direction it was blowing from and there was a definate chill in it. A few fish were rising so I set up my floater with 3 buzzers on a 20ft leader. After my second cast I hooked but lost a fish. I changed tactics as the day progressed and Fossil in his infinate wisdom was using a Traffic Light Buzzer ( his entamology is unbelievable). Fossil had around 3 fish to this method. I changed to a PTN on the dropper and a GHHE. I saw a nicew fish move about 50 yards in front of me so I covered it ( it was really only about 20 yards out). I mended my line and let things settle. A fierce take and fish on. This felt a nice fish and was ripping line from my fingers with great speed. After 5 good runs I saw the fish which looked good. I played it a little more until I could unhook it in the water. The fish was perfect and in great condition> i would say the fish was at least 6lb probably going on 8lb. The fish didnt need reviving and as soon as the hook was removed it shot off. I fished on for another few hours and ended up returning 4 lovely fish all on the GHHE. Fossil finished on 5 fish while David from the forum fished dries to tempt a couple of fish. I left around 5pm as I was froze while David and Watty's stayed on a while longer.
All in all a good days fishing all we need now is the weather to warm up and make it even more enjoyable.

It was great to see all the others today, a real unexpected surprise. I had no idea who David was, but I was watching him casting thinking, "That guy can cast further into the wind than I can cast with it".
I ended up with 5 fish, all on mini lures, black /green or cats whiskers, fished on my intermediate.
As for my entomology, I really don't understand Adrians problem with my traffic light buzzer.
I am sure I saw some of these hatching.

I got back for a few hours today. Had six fish. The weather was grim but the wind was much kinder. Had four of my fish on buzzers (honest Adrian, real buzzers this time). The other two on a sunburst and olive fritz goldhead. Managed to even catch for the first time using an indicator.
Have noticed that the fish at present in Woodford are stunning. Beautifully shaped with the most well defined and dark spots.

I don't know what an ipn is but to confuse you even further a GHHE is a GRHE with a GH! (Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear)

Most of my fish from Woodford come on versions of this. Easy to tie, it is really a nymph sized lure that I think fish will accept as representing damsels nymphs, pinfry or any small lively creature. I fish them very slowly, or even completly static. Black is very good with a flourescent green hotspot, but sunburst yellow has been working well for me of late. Fishing a size 10 or 12 on the point with a 12 or 14 buzzer on the dropper makes a useful searching rig. If they are taking the buzzer change to one on the point as well.
If I can tie them and catch fish on them, they are well named. I would be lost without them.
