16th May 2008

Got to Woodford for a days fishing today. Weather started off quite overcast but ended up very bright. There was quite a gentle South East wind. It fished quite well for the conditions with most fish being caught quite deep. I ended up landing 4, losing 3 and getting another handful of bites. Some anglers were catching on buzzers but my fish all came to cormorants on a clear intermediate line.

The water was very clear and I was able to watch the male sticklebacks, in all their fine breeding colours,  darting about defending their little territories. They really bristle with attitude and show and brought back fond childhood memories of sprick nets and jam jars.

An excellent day.

Nice one FF , must try and get to Woodford for a day or maybe an evening very soon. It's good to see it's fishing well and a few nice fish being caught. (mostly be harry lfc by the looks of things.) Wink
I hear the old Straid Fishery is fishing well and some nice fish being reported there. Cool

Watty's Rock,
Woodford has been fishing well in the evenings lately. Fish will take dries at last light. Olive Shipman's buzzers seem to be the pattern that does best.

Woodford again today. Difficult, wind was very strong and still in the South East. There was not a lot being caught, but I was quite pleased to land 3 and lose one. Two to black tadpole type lures on an intermediate and one to a Gold head Hare's ear on a floater.

Found the wind difficult to cast in, and that severely limited the amount of bank space available to me. There were very few fish rising. Probably be better in the evening when the wind drops.
