Wrong Way Round

Hi All

here is a Pic that went wrong,,what i was trying to  do was  obviously take a Photo of the damsel fly with the background OUT of focus and the fly IN focus but i got it the wrong way round,,,

what went wrong here tack ?

i`ve seen some stunning shots of bugs and stuff like that were you could quite literally look right into their eyes and the background is out of focus

how do i put this right next time tack ?

ok m8 not too far out the camera has spots it take readings from in this case it has taken info from centre and as the reeds are slightly further away in centre thats whrer focus is sharpest
if you had aimed direct at damsel then more than likely would have been sahrp if able to focus that close

there will always be more iffy shots than spot on ones with insects as they can move so fast you end up chasing them all over and focussing on them aint easy you are prob only a couple inches left od a great shot Shocked

again its like your other question below

depth of field so will do a thread on depth of field

wrong way round

i seeeeeee,, gotta experiment a little more to get the feel of what im doing,, one thing i have realised is that you got to think about what the shot is that you`re looking for insted of simply pointing the camera and pushing the button and hoping it turns out right,,,,

i like this depth of field thing,,i would say once i know how to set the camera properly for the Pic that im after then its all down to practising it on my day out to see what results im getting,,,

tack can you tell me if i should use Manual focus more often ??? as i normally just use auto,,reason i say this is because judging by a few things i`ve read the focus issue ie gaining that shot that you`re after,, can sometimes be a matter if INCHES or even millimeteres away,,would that be right  ?

Firey,

if using the auto focus, a trick that works with compacts, is to point the centre of the viewfinder at the part you want in focus. Then only half depress the release button, re-centre your shot and fully press. The auto focus should hold it's original setting. This gives you an off centre point of focus .
