The hook was a size 20 Drennan Carbon Specimen. This is a short shanked silver coloured coarse fishing hook with a straight eye designed for heavy duty work particularly chub. The short shank and straight eye meant that the final dressing was more the size of a 22. As well as appearing to be virtually indestructable I also found it very easy to tie on.
They come in packs of 10 for about £1 and can be easily bought at most tackle shops. Due to the fiddliness of tying small hooks on and the tendancy for them to straighten so easily, I can see this pattern becoming my first choice for tying these tiny shuttlecock type flies. Highly recommended. |
