Help.........
I can cast big flies fine.. thanks to Strevie Kennedy and Lee Cummings but i'm having real problems with this little 6# I bought for the trout
On the 3rd cast when I shoot the line,im getting wild tailing loops, and the fly is catching the line as it turns over ...
it doesnt happen all the time ... but if i try to put a bit of power into the cast or haul it ..then it happens
I used to get the same problem with the 9# chucking the big flies .. but I was told to wait and wait and wait somemore on the backcast ... this solved the problem ... but its not working for the wee rod
Hellllllllllllllllllllpppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
thanks
Andy

not sure how this is happening andy but one thing i do when i shoot the line is i pinch the fly line just as all of it is nearly out to stop it so that it makes the fly turn over hope this helps , harry _________________ its not the flies its how u use them |

Andy,
Not sure that my experience is in any way similar, but I have always been lead to believe that tailing loops can be the curse of the improving angler as oppssed to the rank beginner. It can be caused by the application of power as our confidence and ability improve. I have found that when they start to appear using much less effort usually sorts them out. Failing that, a short break to regain composure and timing also helps.
Another thing is that I seem to suffer less problems of this sort with my stiffer, slightly faster actioned, rods. _________________ "The world and the universe is an extremely beautiful place, and the more we understand about it the more beautiful does it appear."

Hi b0ogaloo
i wouldn`t be in a position to sort out your casting problems mate having said that the switch from chucking heavy flies on SWFF gear to chucking lighter flies on a 6wt trout set up is probably going to take a little more practise,,it seems to me you you have a few technical difficulties that need sorted..when this happened to me i had a quick vistit to the casting doctor aka Hardy Caster to sort out the problem,,,,maybe you should book a quick appointment its well worth the money and not that expensive either it certainly irons out all the little glitches that most of us dont even know we have...
i personally think it becomes more apparent especially when the conditions are Flat Calm with NO wind at all behind you,,the reason i say this is because i believe we all have our own comfort zone as to how well or how far we can cast,, but on the days when there is virtually no wind or when you can see the classic flat calm coming on the water for the evening rise the fish begin to move steadily further and further out,,,thats when we try to cast that little bit further to reach the fish which takes us out of that comfort zone that we all have and the more we try to cast out the worse it gets which results in birds nest tangles with flies catching and tangling on the fly line....casting properly is all about timing i believe
the solution to the above is buy a Boat OR a KAYAK and paddle out to them
Regards

AHHH ..a kayak ....now why didnt I think of that ?
FF .. my 9# is a very fast actioned rod , the 6# is a vision 3 zone .. its feels like a through action , Im sure its more than capable of gettingthe flies out there ..in the right hands .. just not my hands
cheers guys
